Pundit delivers Manchester United selection claim that fans will reluctantly agree with

Manchester United have been told having Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba in the same line-up won't work, unless Ole Gunnar Solskjaer makes tactical changes.

After starting the season in blistering fashion with a five-star victory over bitter rivals Leeds United, the Old Trafford giants headed into the October international break on a whimper.

They returned to Premier League action with a dismal reverse against Leicester City at the King Power.

It was an outing that marked the start of a challenging run of fixtures for Solskjaer and his team, who have Atalanta (twice), Liverpool, Tottenham and Manchester City to come between now and November 6.

Even at such an early stage of the campaign, that spells crunch-time for the 13-time Premier League champions.

However, in order to spark an upturn in fortunes, the Norwegian manager has been urged to change things up on a tactical level to provide a platform for United superstars Fernandes, Pogba and Cristiano Ronaldo to shine.

Speaking to radio station talkSPORT, pundit and ex-Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy said: "I said this a year and a half ago; Fernandes and Pogba in the same team doesn't work, unless you have got eight players who are workaholics.

"You throw Ronaldo in the mix and, in effect, you are carrying three, aren't you?

"It's fine to carry three attacking players if the rest of them know what they are doing behind them.

"Work. [They need] Repercussions for performances. If you don't have repercussions for performances, you won't get the work in."
