Pundit delivers damning verdict on Nottingham Forest hopes

Charlie Nicholas says Nottingham Forest have no hope of going automatically this season.

The former Arsenal and Celtic star watched the Reds draw 1-1 with Middlesbrough in his capacity as a pundit for Sky Sports on Tuesday night.

After the game, Nicholas was asked if he felt fifth Forest were good enough to catch second placed West Brom, who are 11 points ahead of them, or leaders Leeds.

"I don't see that at all. I really don't," he said.

"Look at the stats - five attempts in the first half, one on target. They had pretty tame efforts.

"There's not a lot goals in this team."

Nicholas did feel that Forest scored a well worked team goal through Ryan Yates and he described the performance of Tiago Silva as 'excellent'.

However, he also felt Jack Robinson had been caught out for the late penalty which secured Middlesbrough a point.

"Marvin Johnson gets in behind Robinson. He dangles the leg and Johnson takes advantage of it," he said.

"The referee wasn't up with the speed of the play. Paddy McNair steps up and it's about digging in for Middlesbrough.

"It's alright saying Nottingham Forest don't score a lot of goals, but Middlesbrough were grateful for the point."
