Pundit Dean Ashton has questioned Brice Samba's role in Watford's winner against Nottingham Forest in an unexpected way.
Forest were beaten 1-0 at Vicarage Road on Saturday with Gaetan Bong, Anthony Knockaert and Samba all arguably at fault.
Bong was beaten by Ismaila Sarr and Adam Masina lashed the ball in through Samba's legs after Knockaert failed to track the goal scorer.
While in one sense, Samba was at fault for the ball going through him, Ashton says he had plenty of mitigation after being caught by Andre Gray's boot when diving to parry Sarr's cross.
Former West Ham striker Ashton says Samba would have been smart to stay down at that point and hope referee Jonathan Moss gave a free-kick, rather than play on before going down after the ball was in the net.
"It's an interesting one for Brice Samba, who gets a whack as he gets a touch before Andre Gray," he said on the EFL on Quest show.
"Ismaila Sarr was brilliant down that right hand side. He looks to play it in. The goalkeeper goes in and it's almost his bravery which is his downfall.
"If he stays down here the referee has a decision to make because he gets clattered by Andre Gray.
"He gets clattered in the head and he's not quite right. He's unlucky with a slight deflection through his legs, but he was clearly affected by what happened when the ball came across.
"He then went down holding his head. He was brave but he might have had a decision if he'd stayed down."
