Pundit blasts 'shambolic' Swansea City and warns Martin must change style after Middlesbrough loss

Swansea City have been warned they may need to alter their style under Russell Martin to bring a halt to an alarming run of results.

The Swans put up a valiant display against in-form Middlesbrough until more dreadful defending in the second-half proved costly as they were ultimately beaten 3-1 by Michael Carrick's side on Saturday.

It means the Swans have collected just one point from the last 15 on offer in the Championship while they have won just three times in their previous 20 league outings.

And Sheffield United forward Courtney Sweetman-Kirk says changes need to be made following Swansea's "awful" and "shambolic" defending against Middlesbrough.

"Time is a precious commodity in football," she said when discussing Martin's long-term hopes at the football club on ITV's EFL highlights show.

"We know the way that Russell Martin wants to play, he wants to be possession-based. I think they've got one of the highest average possessions in the Championship.

"But in terms of their defence, you see it for the penalty, awful defending. The second goal as well, the line of the defence is absolutely shambolic.

"I know he wanted to bring in players in January. That didn't happen. You've got to stick with what you've got.

"Playing out from the back, we know that's fashionable at the moment, but if you can't do it and you keep getting caught then maybe it's time to change your tactics."

Swansea return to action against Millwall at The Den on Tuesday night.
