Pug puppy abandoned in plastic bag finds forever home after hundreds bid to adopt him

The tiny puppy, known as "Bobby" made national headlines last week when a passer-by heard him whining in a bush.

A five-week-old pug who was dumped in a plastic bag in Ireland has found his forever home after more than 600 people asked to adopt him.

The tiny puppy, known as “Bobby” went viral last week when a passer-by heard him whining in a bush in Flower Hill, County Meath.

The emaciated dog was discovered in a plastic bag and brought to the Coolronan Dog Rescue shelter in nearby Ballivor.

Hundreds called up Chris Kelly, who runs the shelter with his partner Ramona Cunningham, enquiring whether they could adopt Bobby.

But Mr Kelly said he "just could not let him walk way after the tiny pug “pulled at his heart strings” and the two became inseparable.

He told the Standard: I have been rescuing dogs for the last 14 years and he just got to me.

He is the first dog that I ever took in and he pulled at my heart strings. They all do but he is a special little pup."

Mr Kelly said he was “sickened” by the amount of animal cruelty and neglect he has seen in Ireland.

He said: The fact that a dog at that age could be neglected as he was he did not want to be born into a world where he was going to be dumped.

It is a regular occurrence here in Ireland. Little pups getting dumped is not uncommon," he continued.

Every dog rescue and dog pound in Ireland is full."

Despite more than 600 calling in to keep Bobby, Mr Kelly said I just could not let him walk away. He is such a character. He is such a funny little pup."

Bobby is so small he can fit through the bars off the baby gate at Mr Kelly’s house before he then gets stuck, he explained.

He will just sit looking at you and you just have to go pick him up,

And he eats all day. All he does is hoover things up! He is seriously cute.
