Puff Daddy’s career has encompassed many entrepreneurial endeavours, from clothing lines to record labels, restaurants to television networks. But this year, the rapper will expand into new territory: setting up a school.

It has been announced that the artist, born Sean Combs, will open a charter school – a publicly funded independent school – in Harlem. Combs, who was born in the New York neighbourhood in 1969, said that creating the school was a “dream come true”.

“I want to impact the lives of young people in my community, and build future leaders,” he said. “The first step is offering access to a quality education. Every young person should have the tools they need to succeed. All our children should be able to pursue their dreams. That is something I can impact with this school.”

Dr Steve Perry, founder of the Capital Preparatory Harlem Charter School, who will join Combs on the board, described the rapper’s dedication to the project on Twitter:

Capital Preparatory Harlem Charter School has been in development for six years, and is scheduled to open this autumn. It is reportedly accepting applications for sixth and seventh grade.

Aside from his educational ambitions, Puff Daddy recently announced a Bad Boy reunion tour beginning in May.
