Pubs in Prescot could share information about problem customers and “inappropriate behaviour” under new plans.
The Knowsley town’s nightlife is having something of a renaissance since the opening of the Shakespeare North playhouse.
With that trend anticipated to continue, Knowsley Council are planning to establish a Pubwatch scheme with a focus on Prescot.

According to a report produced ahead of a meeting of the borough’s licensing committee next week, 21 licensed premises in the town have expressed an interest in getting involved.
As part of the scheme, premises would sign up for Schemelink – a communication channel used by Pubwatch schemes nationally- and where intelligence can be shared in real time about problem customers.
The report states: “It enables premises to share information on any customers who have been asked to leave premises or refused entry due to inappropriate behaviour” and other relevant information securely.
The cost of Schemelink, at £31 per premises, will be met by the council for the first year at the request of business owners in the town, with funding having been secured to support this.
The initial funding of Schemelink by the council is in keeping with the launch of Pubwatch elsewhere in the country, according to the report, and the businesses are expected to continue to fund it in later years.
The scheme, which is not mandatory, is due to commence in December in Prescot and if successful could then be launched elsewhere in the borough.
Members of the council’s licensing committee will meet next Wednesday November 30 to discuss the proposed scheme in more detail.
