Pubs offered public funds to help them provide Post Office and library services

A shot of taxpayers’ cash will help dozens of struggling rural pubs to offer services including Post Offices, shops and libraries.

The Government has announced a £188,000 boost for its Pub is the Hub fund, to the delight of real ale campaigners.

Tom Stainer, CAMRA chief executive, said: “It is fantastic news rural pubs will be provided additional funding to fulfil the purpose many serve - acting as the hub of the community.”

But he added: “We’d like a package to support all pubs.”

Pub offering Britain’s cheapest roast for just a quid - but there's one catch

Community Pubs Minister Jake Berry said licensees are getting a chance to offer “basic groceries, library books, training courses and outlets for local suppliers.”
