Pubs in England to stay open 15 minutes later for Euro 2020 final

Pubs in England will be given permission to open 15 minutes later on Sunday in case the Euro 2020 final goes all the way to extra time and penalties.

Boris Johnson has granted pubs permission to open until 11.15pm, 15 minutes after usual Sunday closing time, to allow for fans watching the final, which kicks off at 8pm but could run for more than two hours if it goes to extra time and a penalty shoot-out.

England could be competing in Sunday's final. If they beat Denmark on Wednesday, the Three Lions will take on the winners of Spain's clash with Italy at Wembley on Sunday.

The Prime Minister’s official spokesman said: “We are taking forward plans to allow pubs to open until 11.15pm on Sunday.

“The entire nation has been gripped by the Euros and this will ensure people can come together to enjoy the final in pubs, should they wish to do so.”

Around 60,000 supporters are expected to attend England's semi-final including the Duke of Cambridge, who is president of the Football Association.
