Coronavirus Scotland: Pubs and restaurants can open indoors from next week as lockdown eases further

Pubs and restaurants will be able to open indoors from next week as lockdown rules ease further in Scotland.

From July 15, food and drink venues can once again welcome customers indoors with social distancing measures in place, along with hairdressers, barbers, museums, cinemas and libraries.

The hospitality sector has also been offered a lifeline as the First Minister announced a relaxation of the two-metre rule to one metre from tomorrow.

In a statement to the Scottish Parliament, Nicola Sturgeon said the ongoing decline in the prevalence of Covid-19 means the country can move into phase three of its four-step plan to exit lockdown.

She confirmed that it can now begin as part of an ongoing ‘careful and cautious exit from lockdown’, also noting that “prevalence [of coronavirus] in Scotland is several times lower than the UK as a whole."

It comes after pubs were given the green light to open their beer gardens on Monday, which saw the much-anticipated launch of Ronnie's Bar and Bike Shop at SWG3.

The Cranside Kitchen also unveiled Glasgow's biggest new beer garden in the shadow of the Finnieston Crane.

Elsewhere in the Merchant City, Glasgow Beer Works is launching an outdoor area underneath the Billy Connolly mural in Osborne Street.

It remains to be seen which of pubs and restaurants will be back in the game from next week, but keep your eye on Glasgow Live for more announcements – and let us know if you're opening for business yourself by emailing details to gillian.loney@reachplc.com.
