Pubs and restaurants in Glasgow could fully reopen next month to punters after a provisional date was set for when the tourist industry may be able to resume.
Tourism Secretary Fergus Ewing confirmed that a provisional date of July 15 has been set for tourism businesses to reopen - a date dependent on public health advice and progression to Phase 3 of route-map out of lockdown.
A move into Phase 3 on July 15 would allow pubs and restaurants to open indoor spaces with physical distancing and increased hygiene routines.
And allow for visitor attractions, hotels, museums, cinemas, galleries to reopen, with live events also permitted with restricted numbers and physical distancing restrictions.
In making the announcement to Parliament, Mr Ewing said: “I’ve been engaging with businesses since the beginning of the outbreak and I have heard their calls for more clarity which today I can provide. Businesses should start to prepare for a provisional return to trading – with appropriate safety guidelines – on July 15.
“This date cannot be definitive and is conditional on public health advice and progression to Phase 3 of the route map. Businesses must now use this time to satisfy the necessary regulations and adapt to the new way of living.”
People will also be able to meet in extended groups and meet with people from more than one household indoors subject to physical distancing in Phase 3 - with travel restrictions also be eased to allow people to drive beyond their local area for leisure and exercise purposes.
