Pubs and bars in Lanarkshire face two week lockdown as Nicola Sturgeon tightens coronavirus restrictions

All licensed premises in Lanarkshire will be shut from Friday at 6pm up to and including Sunday, October 25.

Use of public transport will also be banned unless "absolutely necessary" as part of attempts to help stop the spread of coronavirus in Scotland.

Restaurants and pubs will be able to operate as takeaway businesses during the two week lockdown.

Other local areas under the same restrictions as Lanarkshire are Greater Glasgow, Ayrshire and Arran, Forth Valley, and Lothian.

Elsewhere in Scotland, pubs and restaurants will be allowed to sell food and non-alcoholic drinks indoors up until 6pm, and will be permitted to sell alcohol outdoors until 10pm.

First Minister Nicoloa Sturgeon said the temporary restrictions would be lifted on Monday, October 26 - but the situation would be reviewed in the central belt, where most of the positive tests are.

It comes just two weeks after the Scottish Government banned indoor household meetings and imposed a 10pm curfew on the already struggling hospitality sector.
