PUBLICi is a platform for journalists, publishers and communities to create and operate their own online newspaper.
Different from a blog, an online news outlet like ours requires (and our platform delivers) many business processes, such as news and article production management, writer management (both internal and external), article syndication management and (future) ad management.
We designed the platform with the aim of building tools for contract news professionals to maximise their customer and consumer reach, simplifying contract / project management and money collection processes as much as possible.
PUBLICi was born out of the feeling that the news provided by the mainstream media is biased, lacking, and in many cases aimed at promoting hidden agendas, and that getting a clear picture of current events is a complex task. While news consumers do have a choice of many independent online news sites, and many are aware of the limitations of the mainstream media, few have the time and energy to scour the web in order to fill in the blanks on a daily basis.
Our mission is to give readers a snapshot of current events, independent of human editorial decisions – a snapshot that stems from reader demand (measured by article reads, shares, etc).
Thus, the PUBLICi platform takes the most popular articles from all hosted news sites and posts them in our main site, which is dedicated to breaking news and current opinions. During our Beta stage, the main site articles are still selected manually by human editors, but we hope to move into an automated process as soon as we have enough data for our algorithms.
We will also support user defined filters, allowing readers to focus on and fine-tune the news topics most relevant to them, without disconnecting from global events and general news.
PUBLICi's core values are:
• Openness – anyone can write, everyone can read
• Neutrality – no one can hide events or force a specific agenda
• Freedom of speech – we will do our utmost to prevent censorship of both articles and comments. This is tricky and complex, and we would love to hear your opinions on how this should and could be done
