Public warned to beware of cold callers offering mould and damp treatments

Householders are being warned to be on their guard against cold callers offering to treat damp and mould.

Trading Standards have noticed an increase in complaints regarding businesses cold calling consumers offering spray foam insulation for lofts to treat mould and damp.

The business will arrange for someone to carry out a survey, claiming damp and mould is present and offering to apply the spray foam insulation at a substantial cost when there may not be any issues at all.

A spokesperson said: "If you have any concerns regarding your loft or roof, we would recommend arranging for a professional roofer to carry out an inspection.

"You can find roofers that are members of the Council’s Trusted Trader Scheme here."
