Public warned over man dressed as 'fake bouncer' in Dublin 'harassing people outside of venues'

A man in Dublin is allegedly dressing up as a bouncer and harassing customers who are seated outdoors.

A recent sighting was reported on Facebook by a man after a night out in Dublin city centre.

The alleged culprit is described as being dressed head to toe as a doorman and is said to walk around with a can hidden in his coat.

There have been no reports of violent behaviour, but more and more people are noting that he is “annoying women” outside the venues he chooses to stand at.

One person took to Reddit and said: “There's a man doing the rounds in Dublin town dressed like a bouncer, standing outside pubs that don't have security, pretending he's the bouncer.

“I went into a pub recently and he was standing there at the door in one of those big jackets you see them in and he had me fooled initially I admit, I said 'alright' as I passed him and he barely acknowledged me but I didn't really think anything except 'bit rude' and went and got my pint.

“When I went back outside to the seated area and a few mins later a girl who was sitting across the way goes back over and I hear her telling him 'look I'm just trying to have a drink with my friend here can you please just leave me alone.'

"The man responded saying: 'I think you've had a bit too much, 3 strikes and you're out.'

“By this stage, I obviously knew something odd was up," he said.

“He's stayed there hassling this girl until the manager came out and started saying 'look, I told you you can't keep hanging around here pretending you work here' and threatening to call the cops.

“His response was something like 'it's a free street' with a can hidden under his sleeve.

Warning others of the person, the man said: “Apparently he's been at it around a few other places too.”

Worried members of the public have been writing beneath the post, with one saying: “I am actually concerned that he threatened to take a girl out of the pub despite having no authority to do so.

“Makes me wonder if he tries that with other women in other pubs. Keep an eye on this guy in case he tries anything.”

Another wrote: “It seems much more like a ploy that allows him to engage with women in an authoritative way.

"It may just end with him getting some of the attention he craves, or it may not."

A third said: “It’s worrying because if a bouncer said to me ‘here, due to Covid, you have to use the side entrance’ and pointed to a back alley off the bar, I'd probably believe it.”
