Public warned not to breach lockdown restrictions to sunbathe over the bank holiday weekend

The public have been warned not to break the ongoing coronavirus lockdown restrictions to sunbathe over the bank holiday weekend.

Temperatures are set to reach 18° in Glasgow later today and tomorrow, before falling again to around 10° on Sunday and Monday.

The current restrictions mean that people are only allowed out to parks for exercise, rather than sunbathing, a fact reiterated by the Prime Minister's official spokesman.

The Prime Minister's official spokesman said: "There is no change to the advice.

"We are asking people to stay at home in order to stop the spread of the virus and, by doing so, protect the NHS and save lives."

Asked if that meant "don't sunbathe this weekend", the spokesman said: "If you want to put it like that."

The news comes after scores of people were spotted flouting the restrictions to sunbathe in Glasgow's Botanic Gardens on Wednesday amid the warm weather.

With a spokeswoman for Police Scotland saying, in response: "The message from the Scottish Government is clear - you should only leave the house for very limited purposes, for example for basic necessities, such as food and medicine, for daily exercise, for medical needs or travelling for work which cannot be done at home."
