Public warned not to approach man who has 'absconded' from Morningside area

People are being warned not to approach a man who has "absconded" from Morningside.

Police are looking to trace Andrew Waddell and want anyone who thinks they've seen him since Wednesday afternoon to come forward.

No further details have been released as to why he was in Morningside.

However officers say he has links to Glenrothes and Kirkcaldy in Fife, and Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.

Waddell, who is also known to use the name Andrew Oswald and David Bennett, was last seen on Colinton Road at around 3pm on Wednesday.

He is described as being white, 6ft tall, of slim to medium build and with short brown/reddish hair with a full beard which may have been trimmed or shaved.

He was last seen in a red hooded top, black trousers and black trainers.

Detective Inspector Bob Campbell of Corstorphine CID said: "As part of our enquiries, we're urging anyone who may have seen Waddell since this time, or who has information on his current whereabouts, to contact us.

"Do not approach him and call Police Scotland via 101, quoting incident number 2073 of May 8, or report any information anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. Always dial 999 if a crime is in progress."
