Public warned about 'bogus callers' targeting vulnerable people

The public have been warned about "bogus callers" who prefer to target the more vulnerable and people living alone.

Gardai warn that these callers can be "intimidating and refuse to take no for an answer".

They have been described as "rogue traders" who may be offering services such as power washing, painting, selling goods.

Gardai are encouraging people not to engage with the callers.

They warned not to open the door to anyone before you have checked who it is and what they want and they are known to you.

They also asked the public to "be vigilant when out and about".

A garda spokesperson said on the Meath Crime Prevention page: "Report suspicious persons/vehicles to us immediately, with as much information as possible, such as registration number of vehicle, description of person, direction of travel etc.

"Remember if in doubt keep them out."
