Public search for missing Gregor Gibbons called off after 'discovery of items believed to be his'

A public search for missing man Gregor Gibbons has been called off following a request by the police.

Yesterday, friends and family of the missing 32-year-old had put a call-out on the Find Gregor Facebook page asking for volunteers to take part in a search.

The search was due to take place today, but a post on the Facebook page last night said it was being called off following a request from police as 'items believed to be Gregor’s' had been found.

His devastated wife Leanne took to the 'Find Gregor' Facebook page to update family and friends on the findings.

Leanne Gibbons shared the heartbreaking plea for missing husband Gregor (Facebook/FindGregor)

She posted: "Due to recent discovery of items believed to be Gregor’s, both the family and police are requesting that the search be called off tomorrow so the Police can conduct their own search.

"We have no further information to provide at this time, we will update when we can.

"On behalf of myself and Gregor's family, we’d like to thank each and every person who was willing to participate in this search."

Leanne had arranged a public search for today in a bid to track her husband down.

Gregor, from Colston in  Glasgow, has not been seen after leaving in his white Ford Fiesta to go to work on Tuesday, July 2.

Police have since released CCTV of his last known movements - walking eastbound on the Forth and Clyde Canal path at Twechar Bridge in Kilsyth on the evening he went missing.

Detectives and specialist diving units have failed to find the missing 32-year-old.
