Public prosecutors move Punjab and Haryana high court to seek air conditioners

CHANDIGARH: Haryana public prosecutors (district attorneys) have moved the Punjab and Haryana high court demanding air conditioners (ACs) for their offices to beat the blazing heat. The prosecutors are aggrieved by the Haryana government's instructions issued in 1970 that they are only entitled to desert coolers in their offices.

The matter reached the high court in the wake of a petition filed by the All-Haryana Attorneys' Welfare Association through its president S K Bairagi, seeking directions for quashing the impugned order dated January 31, 2017, vide which air-conditioning was refused for the offices of district attorneys . The petitioner also sought directions for the constitution of a committee, comprising the chief secretary, ACS (home), ACS (finance) and director, prosecution Haryana to reconsider the claim of the association for providing ACs in the offices of district attorneys within a period of one month.
