Public meeting called over Leeds community shop proposal

A bid to set up a community-run shop in Leeds city centre is to have a launch meeting to see how much support there might be for the idea.

As reported earlier this week, a group of individuals are concerned over the recent closure of local store Simpsons near Brewery Wharf and have floated the idea of launching a community-run shop similar to the Natural Food Store in Headingley.

A public meeting will be held at the Adelphi on Wednesday, 8 September, from 6.30pm to 8.30pm. You can register to attend the event over at this Eventbrite page. All welcome to attend.

One of the organisers, Rob Greenland, said that there had been a good response to his guest post earlier this week. He added:

"Our launch meeting is a chance to see just how much support there might be for this idea.

"Many of us who live and work in this part of town are already missing have a decent shop right on our doorstep. What can we do about it? What we usually do is wait in hope - hoping that another food and drink store will open up in their place. But maybe there's something more."
