WASHINGTON _ The House Judiciary Committee's top Republican said he expects Congress and the public may get only a short summary of special counsel Robert Mueller's findings from his Russia investigation.
Rep. Doug Collins of Georgia, who said Friday that he met with Attorney General William Barr last week, added that it's unclear how soon the public will learn anything about Mueller's findings after he turns over his report to the Justice Department. He said it may take time for Barr to resolve issues such as whether investigative or privacy concerns require confidentiality.
The summary of Mueller's findings from the probe, which has examined whether Donald Trump's 2016 presidential campaign colluded in Russian efforts to interfere with the election, will go first to the chairmen and ranking members of the House and Senate Judiciary committees, Collins said.
"What I fully expect from Mueller is he'll talk about what he was charged with doing _ the collusion and the influence of Russia _ he'll make that determination now," said Collins. "We do not believe there is going to be collusion."
Collins said that "I do not believe _ just my thought process _ that there's more indictments coming from this, than what we've seen before."
He said the information about Mueller's findings that's turned over to Congress won't include any grand jury information or details about continuing investigations. "This is historically something DOJ has fought back on; they have never released this information, and we don't expect that to happen now," he said.
Democrats, who now control the House, have said they will demand Mueller's full report _ not just a summary from Barr _ as well as the evidence behind it.
