Every year, we ask you, the members of our network, to help us in our search for leaders to shape what we do over the next 12 months and nominations are now open for the 2015 Guardian Public Leaders editorial advisory board.

This year, we’ve increased our Guardian Public Leaders membership, with more than 25,000 members now signed up with the network, and visits to our website have increased by 70% since January. We’ve covered everything from delays in paying civil service pensions by the government’s largest mutual spinout, MyCSP, to public sector strikes and local government’s #ourday. One of our most popular pieces this year was explaining how to join the civil service fast stream, but we’ve also reflected the disillusion many civil servants are feeling.

From digital government to allotments, our livechats and Guardian Witness assignments have revealed the huge scope of public services, while our prestigious global public leaders series included video interviews with Malaysian minster Abdul Wahid Omar and with Silvana Koch-Merin, former MEP and founder of Women in Parliaments. The members of our 2014 board have been a fantastic resource for our journalists and editors. We couldn’t have done such a good job without you - many thanks to you all.

We are now looking for nine people from the widest-possible cross-section of public services to join our 2015 board. As before, we’re asking you, the members of the Public Leaders Network, to nominate the people you’d like to see work with us over the next 12 months.

Why become a member of the Public Leaders board?

Guardian Public Leaders is unique in its breadth of public services coverage. When you join our board, you get a chance to come into the Guardian twice a year, to share your own experience and catch up with leaders from other parts of public service. Former board members have found it stimulating, we hope - and of course it helps us on the network ensure that we are catching the real mood of what’s going on in public services.

What does being on the Public Leaders board entail?

The main task of our board members is to attend two board meetings, one in late January and the other in mid-June, to help us plan our coverage. At the meeting, we’d like each board member to give a brief overview of policy, management and leadership issues in their own sector. Dates of the meetings will be confirmed early in 2015.

We’d also like our board members to help us disseminate content via social media or other channels. They don’t have to write anything for the network - but all contributions are welcome.

Who is eligible?

Nominees can work in any organisation and in any role, as long as they have a proven role in public services. The final board will be chosen from a shortlist decided by the editor, and will represent as far as possible a wide cross-section of those planning, designing and leading UK public services, including leaders from the private and voluntary sectors.

How to nominate

Before you nominate anyone, please check they are happy for you to do so, and ensure all their contact details are up-to-date. You may not nominate yourself and you must be a member of the Public Leaders Network to take part in this election.

When’s the deadline?

Nominations open on 8 December, and close at midday, 12 January, 2015. Please provide full contact details of both nominators and nominees, including email, phone number, job title, organisation and a brief sentence on why you think they should join our board.

What happens next

Once nominations have closed, the editor will draw up a shortlist and the final board members will then be agreed in consultation with members of this year’s board. We will let the new board members know the decision by Monday 19 January 2015, when the list of the new board will be published on the network.
