Public Health Scotland: More Covid vaccine drop-in centres to open in Ayrshire

Two more Covid vaccine clinics are to be opened in Ayrshire over the coming days.

The drop-in centres will operate at Troon's Walker Hall and Cumnock Town Hall.

Anyone over the age of 18 living in the county who is yet to receive their first dose will be eligible to attend.

Those aged 16 or 17 years who are unpaid carers or living with someone who is shielding can also attend.

It comes with the number of Covid cases in the region soaring and concerns surrounding the rate of vaccine uptake.

We told yesterday how South Ayrshire has seen a spike of 600 per cent in its case rate during the last seven days.

Positive cases are also rising in both North and East Ayrshire.

A drop-in clinic which opened earlier this week in Dreghorn saw huge queues attend and NHS bosses are warning the public to be prepared for lengthy waits.

Director of public health Lynne McNiven said: “Getting vaccinated is likely to be the most important thing you do this year.

"Our teams and partners are working incredibly hard to deliver the vaccine to communities around Ayrshire to offer people the best protection we can against COVID-19.

“Drop-in clinics are just one thread of the blended approach we have to our vaccination programme.

"I’d encourage anyone – particularly anyone over 40 who has not yet had their first dose of vaccine – to take this opportunity to be vaccinated.

“Remember that we cannot predict turnout at drop-in clinics, so on the day it could be that you need to wait to be seen by one of our vaccinators.

"Please keep an eye on our social media updates where you may get more information about the length of wait and any other important information.

“I want to say thank you to every single person who has come forward for vaccine in Ayrshire since the programme began.

"Every jag is one step closer to getting back to something more like normal, for all of us.”

Blue appointment letters for the Under-40s in Ayrshire will continue to drop throughout the month of June.

If you are over 40 and cannot attend a drop-in clinic but do want to be vaccinated, call the national vaccination helpline on 0800 030 8013 to arrange an appointment at a local clinic.

The centres operate at:

Walker Hall, Troon – Sunday 6 June, 8.30am – 6pm

Cumnock Town Hall – Monday 7 June, 8.30am – 6pm
