Public Health Scotland map shows neighbourhoods worst affected in West Lothian

The latest heatmap data shows that Armadale South is currently the worst affected area in West Lothian for Covid-19.

The Public Health Scotland (PHS) map of 37 West Lothian neighbourhoods reveals a huge portion of the county is in the highest red zone, with over 100 cases per 100,000 of the population.

The heatmap figures are made up on a seven-day basis and the latest are for the week of October 20 - 26.

They show that Armadale South had 34 positive Covid-19 tests in the seven day period, Bathgate West had 20, Blackburn reported 14, Broxburn Kirkhill returned 20 and Craigshill had 19 positive cases.

In total, 34 of the 39 West Lothian neighbourhoods on the map are in the red zone.

Linlithgow South is in the next zone with a slightly lower amount of positive cases whilst the likes of Mid Calder and Kirknewton, Winchburgh and Linlithgow North are in the moderate zone, with 50-74 positive cases per 100,000.

Only Linlithgow Bridge is in the third lowest blue category with 30-49 cases per 100,00 of the population and West Lothian has no neighbourhoods ranked in the bottom two zones.

The latest PHS figures for West Lothian itself show there were 49 new reported Covid-19 cases as of October 27, with 322 over a seven day period and 2023 since records began.

This means the county’s 175 cases per 100,000 of the population was above the national average of 140.

But, as we reported last week, there might be some room for optimism due to a downturn in the amount of positive cases being returned.

On October 20, a record 100 cases were recorded in the county but the data in the seven following days shows the numbers of people returning positive tests has dropped.

Figures for the most recent days show there were 49 new cases recorded on October 25, a further 31 on October 26 and again 49 as of the most recent figures from October 27.

However, the death toll continue to rise with 25 Covid-19 fatalities recorded in West Lothian over the past month and a total of 125 since records began.

In Scotland 1202 new cases were recorded, with 7671 over the past seven days and a total of 60,403.
