Public Health Scotland data reveals Covid-19 infections drop significantly in West Lothian

West Lothian has had a significant drop in Covid-19 infections.

The latest Public Health Scotland data reveals West Lothian had just 14 new infections as of March 28.

Over the week between March 20 - 26 there were another 290 infections in West Lothian, with a new total of 7676 since March 2020.

This means the county has a positivity rate over the week of 158 per 100,000, just over double the national average of 69.1, and remains the most infectious area in Scotland.

However, last week West Lothian was close to treble the national average before infections started dropping again.

The data also revealed that North Lanarkshire is the second most infectious place in Scotland, with 144 per 100,000.

The PHS heatmap shows infection rates dissipating in Livingston, after the recent outbreak in the town.

Breich Valley, including HMP Addiewell, had the most infections over the past week, with 61 among their 4911 residents.

The heatmap also showed that ten of the 37 neighbourhoods have now suppressed the contagion over the past week, with fewer than two cases.

They were: Blackburn, Whitburn, Croftmalloch and Greenrigg, West Calder and Polbeth, Uphall, Dechmont and Ecclesmachan, Seafield, Linlithgow South, Linlithgow Bridge, Linlithgow North, Fauldhouse, Blackridge, Westfield and Torphichen.

The First Minister has stopped her daily Covid-19 briefings ahead of the Scottish Parliament elections.

However, she took time out over the weekend to send a message to people to stick to the rules.

Nicola Sturgeon tweeted: “Please continue to abide by all the public health rules and advice. Stay safe and keep those you love safe too.”
