A record-breaking 5,021 new cases of coronavirus have been reported in Scotland in the last 24 hours.
The figure eclipses the previous daily high of 4,323 cases reported yesterday.
Latest data published by the Scottish Government and Public Health Scotland today show there are 391 Covid patients in Scottish hospitals — up 27 from yesterday
There are 44 people battling the virus in ICUs across the nation — up one during the same period.
Five new deaths from the disease have been recorded in the last 24 hours meaning Scotland's Covid death toll now stands at 8,085.
However, 10,505 deaths have been registered in Scotland where the virus was mentioned on the death certificate up to Sunday, August 22.
In terms of Public Health Scotland's rolling seven-day infection rate per 100,000 population, West Dunbartonshire has the highest rate in the country — at 787.9 as of Tuesday, August 24.
East Dunbartonshire has the second-highest infection rate at 668.5 while East Renfrewshire is third with 651.7.
In terms of Ayrshire's three local authorities, North Ayrshire has the highest rate of 434.3 while South Ayrshire's rate is 371 and East Ayrshire's is 300.2.
A total of 259 new cases of Covid have been reported in Ayrshire in the last 24 hours compared to. Broken down, 101 were in East Ayrshire, 81 in North Ayrshire and 76 in South Ayrshire.

There are 21 Covid patients in Ayrshire hospitals – up two from yesterday – while fewer than five people are battling the disease in intensive care in the region.
A total of 4,088,894 people have received the first dose of the Covid vaccine and 3,603,429 have received a second dose.
