Public Health Scotland confirm new Ayrshire Covid infection rates after Easter holidays

New coronavirus data has been published today for the first time since the Easter holidays.

Public Health Scotland figures give an updated picture on the prevalence of the virus off the back of the holiday.

It's the first update since the 'Stay at Home' messaging was lifted and restrictions were eased for businesses yesterday.

Statistics produced today show a disproportionate rise in local cases as regional data was not updated over Easter.

Since Friday, April 2, 86 new coronavirus cases have been detected in Ayrshire. The region's total now at 16,634.

ICU numbers remain below five and the number of patients fighting the deadly virus in NHS Ayrshire & Arran hospitals has been reduced to 20.

Across Scotland, four more Covid deaths have been reported over the past 24 hours, none of which were in Ayrshire.

Across the country 259 new cases have been recorded overnight with the nation's total now at 220,493.

NHS Ayrshire & Arran's 7-day case rate per 100,000 is currently at 43.6

At local authority level South Ayrshire still has the lowest case rate in the region with 17.8; North Ayrshire is on 43.0; and East Ayrshire is at 68.0.
