Public Health England figures show more Covid-19 cases in Nottinghamshire and Nottingham

A further 65 people have tested positive for coronavirus across Nottinghamshire, Public Health England figures have shown.

According to the most recent data for Wednesday, April 22, there have been a total of 1,344 confirmed cases across the county as a whole.

As it stands, 416 people have tested positive in the city and 928 across the wider county.

Wednesday's overall total for Nottinghamshire marks an increase from 1,279 from the day before.

It comes after the medical director of the Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust, in charge of the Queen's Medical Centre and City Hospital, said a further six patients had died from the virus.

Dr Keith Girling added: "Regrettably that means that 157 Covid-19 positive patients we were caring for have sadly died since the beginning of March. The patients were aged between 74 and 102, and died on the 20 and 21 of April.

“The families have been informed and our thoughts and condolences are with them at this difficult and distressing time.”

Meanwhile, Health Secretary Matt Hancock said the UK had reached the peak of the outbreak.
