Public Health England data shows surge in coronavirus cases across Nottinghamshire

Confirmed cases of the covid-19 virus have increased further across Nottinghamshire.

The latest figures from Public Health England show there has, in total, been a further 56 cases confirmed in the past 24 hours.

As of Thursday, April 9, the number of cases in Nottingham city jumped from 232 to 261.

In Nottinghamshire, there are now 536 cases, up from 509.

The increase comes as the number of deaths in Nottingham's hospitals increased by four over the same period, bringing the total to 72, including 48-year-old bus driver Andrew Howe.

In the rest of England, the number of cases increased to 65,077 with 7,978 deaths.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who was admitted into intensive care a few days ago due to coronavirus complications, is now reportedly in "extremely good spirits" as he left ICU for a less critical area of hospital.

These figures from PHE only show those who have been tested, and in reality the total numbers will be higher.
