Public get their first look at Garshake housing plans

Around 40 people attended a public exhibition showing a house developer’s plans for the site of the former council buildings in Dumbarton.

The event, held last Monday at the Cutty Sark Centre in Bellsmyre, was an opportunity for residents from the area to view the proposals for the first time.

The Lennox Herald reported last month how Miller Homes has bought the land at Garshake for more than £6million.

The site of the offices, home to hundreds of council employees before they were relocated to new offices in June last year, received four offers when it went on the market in September.

The bid by Miller Homes was accepted with the firm proposing 86 private homes comprising a mix of three and four-bedroom family homes across 6.32 acres.

Speaking about last week’s public exhibition event, a spokesperson for Miller Homes said: “We would like to thank the members of the local community who took time to visit our exhibition on December 9 to find out more about our plans for the former council buildings at Garshake Road.

“We had around 40 visitors who were generally supportive of our proposals to create a new development of three and four-bedroom high quality homes.

“We are currently in the process of reviewing this feedback before submitting our planning application in the early part of 2020.”

The move to sell the land was welcomed by council leader, Councillor Jonathan McColl as well as town councillor David McBride last month with Councillor McBride saying: “These new homes will be very popular.”
