Public consultation on Lanarkshire housing development set to get underway

Cumbernauld residents will get to have their say on a major new housing development in the town.

A public consultation on the proposals, which will be on part of the Antonine course of Dullatur Golf Club, will begin shortly.

The development will be located at the rear of Tesco Craigmarloch, between Eastfield Road and the railway line.

Locals heavily criticised the initial announcement following submission of the proposal of application notice, with many feeling the local infrastructure is "entirely insufficient for a major development in this location".

Issued raised included fears around road safety and traffic management and school and GP surgery capacity, along with concerns around the loss of established greenspace.

The development, led by Hallam Land Management, will seek public views online from next Wednesday, May 5, at www.dullaturplanning.co.uk and feedback from members of the community can be submitted until May 26.

There will also be a virtual consultation event taking place on the website, with members of the project team available to answer questions directly, on May 12, from 11am until 7pm.

Dullatur Golf Club states this development will help to secure its long-term future as the club celebrates its 125th anniversary, with recent financial struggles placing the viability of the club in serious doubt.

The housing propsals will see the club's Antonine course reduced to nine holes, with the Carrickstone course unaffected.
