Pubgoers brave the rain to grab a pint as Liverpool's bars reopen after lockdown

Liverpool’s bar and restaurants are officially back with a bang as people descend on the city centre, despite the dreary weather.

After months of waiting, bars, pubs, restaurants and cafes swung open their doors today to welcome customers back.

Businesses across the country were put on hold in March when lockdown was enforced in order to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

In the months since lockdown began, many bars and restaurants have launched takeaway and delivery services, but it’s nice to see places slowly getting back to normal.

Across the city centre today, people turned out to see their favourite venues open up again for the first time in months - and get their hands on a freshly poured pint.

Despite the weather, pub goers made the trip to Mathew Street and Concert Square, making the most of being able to visit a bar again.

Venues had social distancing measures in place, such as floor markings and screens.

One bar, Hardy’s on Mathew Street, was taking guests’ temperature and contact details, as well as providing hand sanitiser, before entry.

Tables across Concert Square were filled with people as they met with friends for drinks, enjoying everything from pints to cocktail pitchers.

Pub goer, Andy, visiting The Croc on Harrington Street told the ECHO : “It’s great to be out but even better to finally meet up with friends.”

Another, James Ryan from New Brighton, said he’d be enjoying his first alcoholic drink since lockdown began today, adding: “I don’t drink in the house, so this is the best thing I’ve tasted in months. I’m going to have to pace myself today”.
