A popular Bristol city centre pub has issued an update on its future after telling customers it was "too small" to reopen.
The Kings Head on Victoria Street is yet to welcome punters back following the coronavirus lockdown, despite more than two months having passed since it was legally allowed.
The pub posted on Facebook on June 25, informing drinkers that it would not be reopening as permitted on July 4.
It said: "Sorry to say Kings Head will not be opening on July 4th, due to social distancing and staying safe for staff and customers.
"Too small."
The pub is part of the Ei Publican Partnership portfolio, which has now shared an update with Bristol Live.
A spokesperson for the group said: “The Kings Head is taking a little longer to reopen as we work to ensure we can offer the best and safest experience for our staff and customers in line with Government guidelines.
"Please keep an eye on our social media pages for updates and we look forward to welcoming you soon."
No time frame was given as to when customers can expect to be back.
The cosy pub is known for its snug, ye-olde charm and no-frills drinks offering.
Its last TripAdvisor review, from March, enthused: "A really unusually quirky old pub. Narrow and long with what seemed to be a an old 'snug' area where I sat with friends and chatted to some locals.
"Some decent ales on offer at average Bristol prices of about £5...Nice and warm, worth a visit just to relax."
It is one of several pubs, bars and restaurants that have chosen to remain closed in Bristol, mainly those with smaller premises where social distancing is difficult.
Bristol restaurant The Cauldron said it will not be reopening until there is a vaccine.
