A group of hardy pub goers have raised a smile after being pictured enjoying an outdoor drink in the pouring rain.
The comical photo shows eager drinkers huddled under umbrellas in a beer garden and not letting the wet weather get in the way of their Bank Holiday weekend celebrations. It was taken on May 1 outside The Cranberry Farm pub, in Exeter, Devon, and has been hailed as a true sign of British grit.
The pub, owned by Hall and Woodhouse brewery, opened again for outdoor service last Thursday. The Cranberry Farm’s Claire Cross said: “We have limited undercover space and the weather was so changeable yesterday. When these lovely guests arrived it was sunny - but they ended up battling a horrendous rain storm with their umbrellas.”
Sharing the photo on Facebook, the pub's owners joked: "Rain, what rain? Anything for a pint on a Bank holiday weekend!"
Under current government coronavirus rules in Wales and England, pubs and other hospitality venues can only serve customers outside. You can read the full rules for Wales here. The image has now gone viral and one onlooker said: "If anyone ever asks me for a photo which sums up British people, it would be this one. It’s just the epitome of Britishness, determined to enjoy life no matter the weather or circumstances."
