Pub sign insulting people who watch Love Island sparks furious debate

In just over a week since Love Island graced our screens once again, we've seen plenty of dumpings, shock re-couplings and new bombshells entering the villa...

Loyal viewers of the show have waited almost 18 months for the new series after it was cancelled because of the coronavirus pandemic, and now it's back they're buzzing.

But it appears not everyone is as thrilled that the ITV hit dating show is back as a pub has sparked outrage for its controversial sign that slated people who tune in.

Twitter user Helen Simmons shared a picture of a board outside a pub that accused fans of having a low IQ - and it caused quite the stir online.

The sign reads: "Imagine having an IQ low enough to enjoy watching Love Island."

Simmons tweeted: "I've got a first from Cambridge b**** I'll enjoy whatever I like."

The tweet quickly racked up more than 30,000 likes and comments from people defending those who binge the show.

One person said: "Some people have very stressful jobs, and just want an hour to switch off. Watching a TV show does not determine your IQ.

"In fact, the quantifying of IQs is so controversial. A test that can be used to exclude and marginalise people. Just like the pub in the photo."

Another person revealed: "135 IQ and I think Love Island is up there with sliced bread."

"People who don't watch tv who think they're better than people who do?" said a third user, adding: "Who are these weirdos? I read a lot, and I watch tv and I knit and I run, none of this makes me a better (or worse) human than anyone else, just let people enjoy doing things!"

Someone else commented: "Up there with the 'no wifi talk to people signs.'"

While another person out: "Imagine running a bar so successfully that you are confident you can publicly insult the entire audience of one of the UK's most popular tv shows. Doesn't pair well with the 'warm welcome' they claim on their website."
