Pub says it's going to be a 'real battle' to keep doors open

A popular pub in Easton has said it is going to be a "real battle" to keep doors open as it joins the list of venues in the city asking for donations.

The Chelsea Inn, on Chelsea Road, has launched a fundraising campaign with a £10,000 target.

This comes as the huge impact of the coronavirus lockdown continues to be felt by the hospitality industry across the city, with some places launching fundraising campaigns, asking customers for help to secure their future.

Many Bristol businesses are scrambling for survival after a closure order was imposed on March 20 to help reduce the spread of the virus.

The fundraising page for the Easton pub has raised almost £4,500 since it was set up five days ago.

It reads: "To all our friends of The Chelsea, we need your help!

"Due to ongoing and extensive structural renovations, followed by the blow of having to close our doors for everyone's safety during the current Covid-19 outbreak, we are now desperately low on funds and it's going to be a real battle to keep our doors open."

The page says the pub is working on plans to start trading safely, with reduced capacity and with social distancing measures in place as soon as it possibly can.

"This is in no way going to be an easy task, but we are hoping that, together, we will see the pub doors open again!," it continues. "We appreciate that this is a hard time for all of us, but if you are able to donate towards the running costs of the pub we would be so, so grateful.

"We love and miss you all, and hope we can pull through and see you all at the bar again.

"Raise a glass to the good ship Chelsea, and all who sail in her!!

"Lots of love, "The Chelsea Crew"

Other businesses in the city to have launched fundraising appeals include not-for-profit Cafe Kino, Wilson's, in Redland, which has received more than £6,000 through its GoFundMe page and Séamus O’Donnell’s, in the city centre.
