Pub reported for breaking lockdown is actually being used to store food for the vulnerable

A pub which was reported to the police for breaking the coronavirus lockdown is actually being used to store food for vulnerable people.

Officers in Breightmet, Bolton, had received several calls from people to say they had seen what looked like punters coming and going from The Withins pub over the last few days.

However, after investigating the building police found that the seats had been removed from the centre of the pub and it was being used to collect food and distribute it to the community.

Authorities are on high alert after Chief Constable Ian Hopkins pointed to a number of venues that had remained open to the public despite the rules surrounding the coronaviurs lockdown.

But, an officer from GMP's Bolton North team took to social media to put residents' mind at ease about what's going on at The Withins and even published a picture of food collected at the pub.

They said: "We have had numerous calls from the public reporting The Withins pub in Breightmet being open following the lockdown.

"To avoid any confusion if you see people going in and out of the pub, the team have removed all the seating from inside the pub and are making up hampers for vulnerable people in the community.

"If you know of anyone who is vulnerable and doesn’t have a support network, you can contact The Withins pub Facebook page, who will do their best to help."
