Pub near Croke Park formerly owned by father of Anthony Stokes that was gutted by fire on sale for €800k

A Dublin pub that was once owned by the father of Celtic and Republic of Ireland star Anthony Stokes has been put up for sale.

The Player's Lounge in Fairview is being sold as a development opportunity with an asking price of €800,000.

Located only a stone's throw away from Croke Park, it's in need of extensive refurbishment after it was gutted by a fire eight years ago.

According to agent Robert Colleran, the building will need to be replaced or the site developed due to extensive fire damage that leaves part of the building open to the elements.

It has potential to accommodate up to 11 apartments, subject to planning permission.

The pub was previously owned by John Stokes, father of Celtic and Republic of Ireland star Anthony Stokes, and was at the centre of a series of shocking events.

In 2010, a doorman and two customers were injured when a gunman opened fire on the bar.

A year later outspoken John Stokes placed a massive banner on the bar slamming the visit by Queen Elizabeth II to Dublin.

And just months later in August 2011 the pub was torched following an armed robbery.

The 2010 shooting first brought the bar to notoriety.

The suspect, armed with a handgun, approached a group standing outside the bar and fired several shots, injuring the men.

Ballyfermot thug John Wilson, 35, was suspected of carrying out the botched hit. Wilson was shot dead near his home in Ballyfermot in September 2012.
