Pub landlady shares heartfelt message as she closes doors

A Merseyside pub has shared a heartfelt message with its customers after taking the decision to close for 14 days.

The Wellington pub in Southport closed its doors on Tuesday, September 22, following a positive case of coronavirus.

Landlady Annie McTaggart told the ECHO she made the conscious decision to close the pub for two weeks, after a staff member tested positive for the virus.

The pub, which had recently been sanitised by a cleaning company, will undergo another deep clean before reopening on October 5.

Posting on Facebook, Annie said: "With a heavy heart and to protect our amazing staff and customers we are closing for 14 days.

"(Because) of a reported case of Covid.

"We have sanitised every day plus had a company in and sanitised!

"So it shows you it can defeat even the strongest and fearless.

"We will come back stronger than ever guys, I'll miss you tons."

New restrictions came into force across Merseyside this week, with Liverpool now ranked as one of the worst affected areas in the country for Covid-19 cases.

Chancellor Rishi Sunak will outline his plans to protect jobs on Thursday after cancelling this year's Budget.
