A quick thinking pub has encouraged customers to fill up with food instead of fuel by offering a discount for not panic buying petrol.

If a customer can provide a picture of their fuel indicator with less than half a tank, The Warrington Road pub, which sits alongside the River Weaver, say they will will receive 20 per cent off their food bill.

BP has said some garages in its 1,200-strong network were experiencing shortages – while Esso and Tesco have been forced to close a small number of forecourts.

A spokesperson for the prime minister said the government acknowledged that there were "issues facing many industries across the UK, and not just in terms of HGV drivers".

They added that there was no shortage of fuel and that there was a "very resilient and robust supply chain" and that "people should continue to shop for fuel as usual".
