Pub company Brewhouse and Kitchen Ltd fined £120K for failings at Bristol site

A pub company has been fined after failing to safeguard its Bristol pub against fire risk.

The case of Brewhouse and Kitchen Ltd was heard at Bristol Magistrates' Court on February 10, in a prosecution brought by Avon Fire and Rescue Authority.

The London-based business admitted four charges that on or before October 27, 2018, it failed to ensure suitable and sufficient measures were in place to reduce risk and spread of fire at its premises at 31-35 Cotham Hill.

Failures included a lack of effective planning, organisation, control, monitoring and review of fire safety preventative and protective measures.

There was also a failure to ensure there was appropriate fire detection equipment.

And a further failure was not ensuring emergency routes and exits led as quickly and as safely as possible to a place of safety.

Magistrates fined the company £120,000, with £12,206.62 costs and a £110 victim surcharge.

The total £132,316.62 penalty is to be paid by August 10, 2022.
