Pub chain develops safe way to reopen with screens and one-way system

A UK pub chain has developed safety measures which it says could allow venues to reopen safely this summer.

The new measures include a one-way system to allow two-metres social distancing and perspex screens around tables.

The measures are being tested at the Betsey Wynne pub in Buckinghamshire, part of the Oakman Inns chain which has 25 venues across the country.

The measures see drinkers enter and exit through different doors - allowing for a one-way system that means people can stay two-metres apart.

Tables are separated by perspex shields, hand gel dispensers are placed throughout the venue to enhance hygiene and people order via an app for table service instead of crowding around a bar.

Peter Borg-Neal, CEO of Oakman Inns told The Sun: “The country is desperate for a proper pint in the pub and we are asking the Government to treat us like grown-ups and let us open.

“We strongly believe in this idea and are presenting it to the Cabinet Office via our trade body, UK Hospitality."

Non-essential businesses, such as pubs and restaurants, will be allowed to open under the third stage of lockdown lifting in England announced by Boris Johson.,

While that stage starts no earlier than July 4 - high-risk venues such as pubs will be the last places allowed to reopen.
