Pub and coffee lounge to reopen after customers test positive for Covid-19

A pub has revealed it had to close for a deep clean after a group of customers tested positive for Covid-19.

The Albany Hotel in Heywood, near Rochdale, said it adopted government guidelines and shut its doors for 48 hours.

All staff were subsequently tested for coronavirus alongside cleaning.

Now the pub on Rochdale Road East has revealed it has been given the green light by the council to open up again on Tuesday.

All staff tested negative, the pub's bosses said.

The pub said it was a 'small business trying to get back on our feet after a difficult four months' - and urged other pubs and restaurants in the same situation to follow suit.

"If we all continue to follow the guidelines we can beat this," the pub said.

"We have followed all precautions and hope that all the other establishments in Heywood will follow the guidelines so we can stop this deadly disease."

The Albany, which is also a coffee lounge and a breakfast and brunch pub, detailed its experience in a series of Facebook posts.

They revealed the group concerned came in on Saturday, July 11.

"Unfortunately a few of a group of our customers who were in last Saturday have tested positive for COVID 19," the Albany wrote.

"In line with government guidelines we now will have to close for 48 hours to get all staff tested and then deep clean the Albany throughout.

"We hope everyone understands this and hopefully it is only precautionary and we will be back open as soon as is safe and we have all been checked out."

The pub confirmed the group sat together in their own 'bubble' and social distancing measures were in place throughout the building.

"Advice is being sort on who we need to give the track and trace information to and they will be in touch if they need to," bosses added on Facebook.

In a post on Monday, the pub said it had taken advice from Rochdale council.

"Thank you to all our customers for your support during a difficult 24 hours," they added.

"We can now confirm that all our staff have tested negative for Covid-19 and the hotel has been thoroughly cleaned.

"We have taken advice from Rochdale Licensing Dept. and they are happy for us to re-open Tuesday morning.

"Please if you have any symptoms or have been in contact with anyone with Covid-19 then please stay away.

"We are a small business trying to get back on our feet after a difficult four months.

"If we all continue to follow the guidelines we can beat this.

"Stay safe and please call and see us soon."

Andrea Fallon, the council's director of public health, said: "Our licensing team provided advice to ensure that rigorous health, safety and infection control measures were considered within the hotel's covid-19 risk assessments, in line with government guidance, prior to any decision they made to re-open the premises."
