Pub aims to stop rise in drinks being spiked with new product

An Ayrshire bar is aiming to stop the recent rise in drink spiking cases with a smart new product.

While no instances of the crime have been reported in the region, one Kilmarnock pub is taking steps to halt the potential for spiking being carried out.

First Edition announced that customers can request new foil lids that cover the drink, leaving enough room for a straw and making it difficult for an assailant to tamper with alcohol.

The Bank Street boozer says patrons can get the new devices from behind the bar or from their door stewards at the weekend.

First Edition's Facebook post reads: "We know Kilmarnock loves to party with us as much as we love to party with you.

"However, here at First Edition, your safety is and always will be our main priority and that’s why we have introduced Stop Topps foil lids, designed to cover your drink.

"We know everyone has heard about the recent rise in spiking cases but our aim is to stop it

"These stoppers are now available behind the bar and from our door steward team at the weekend.

"Ask any member of our staff about these and we will be more than happy to help."
