A psychologist is blowing minds after she shared an optical illusion that tricks the brain into seeing colour where there is none.
Dr Julie Smith, a clinical psychologist, shares mental health and motivational videos on TikTok where she has amassed an impressive 2.8 million followers.
In a recent black and white video, Dr Smith could be seen sitting outdoors with a white cross on her head.
"You’re about to experience a negative after image," she says, "I’m going to trick your brain into seeing colour where there is none."
She then edited the black and white video to have high contrast.
“By focusing on the cross your brain is going to do something incredible.
"Overexposing the receptors in your eyes to certain colours causes the brain to see inverted colours when the black and white image appears.
"Now even when it changes keep focusing on the cross."
When the video switches back to black and white, it should appear to look much brighter and colourful than before.
Since being posted, the video has racked up more than 55,000 likes and thousands of comments from people who were baffled by the results.
One person said: "It did! But only for a split second."
Another wrote: "Uh oh. I think my brain is broken."
"I see purple flowers, a blue bench, green behind you and your shirt look green," said a third.
Whilst a fourth revealed: "I'm confused. I saw colour before I even focused on your head."
And someone else put: "I've re-watched this so many times, my mind is blown."
But a few people were less disappointed as they said it didn't work for them.
