Psycho Path wins Scare Award as it prepares for its terrifying return

By Barbara Hodgson

Halloween scream park Psycho Path has won a national award after impressing judges who like nothing more than a scarily good time.

The annual spine-tingler was singled out at the ScareTOUR awards for last year's event which made a comeback with new additions on its vast County Durham site which more than made up for the lockdown year. And news of its award success comes as tickets are already selling well for this year's outing which has yet more new attractions in store.

Psycho Path won the ScareTOUR Rising Star award on Tuesday night for its immersive Halloween experience which goes out of its way to terrify visitors to its 'apocalyptic wasteland' site at Lintz Hall Farm in Burnopfield where, in keeping with the chilling setting, there awaits the likes of iScream, a disorientating house of horrors, and 2.5-acre maze Corn-ered which has shocks in store, accompanied by chilling sounds and lighting, at every turn.

Psycho Path also had been nominated in the Best Original Concept category of the awards for one of 2021's new attractions, Isolation, which feeds upon people's fears as their imaginations are unleashed in enclosed darkness.

The ScareTOUR entertainment site, set up 20 years ago by the ScareCON trade show for the horror industry, collates independent reviews of scare attractions in the UK and Europe. Its awards are set to bring national attention to winners and Psycho Path is already a huge success story. Last year it had to extend its October run after an early sell-out of tickets.

The event recently announced that it is on the lookout for special effects make-up and prosthetics professionals as well as being busy recruiting for scare actors to join its team of horrors. It will be back this year on Friday and Saturdays from September 30 until the night of Halloween itself, October 31, and Nigel Holliday of 700 Acres Ltd, which operates it, says this year's new additions - being kept under wraps for now - will be "the stuff of nightmares".

Celebrating the news of its win, which it shared with its Facebook followers, Psycho Path said: "To everyone who’s supported us on our horror journey so far - thank you." And fans were quick to share their own delight at the success.

Comments on its Facebook page included "Amazing and well deserved"; "Well done! Fantastic place to be and I go every year"; "congratulations"; "richly deserved" and "Amazing- well done team Psycho Path". To book tickets for the Psycho Path experience, see here.
