Psycho Path seeks 'scare actors' for October's Halloween horror experience

By Barbara Hodgson

In the build-up to Halloween, annual chiller Psycho Path is recruiting new members to its team to help bring this year's experience to gory life.

And this job-with-a-difference, which will involve being out in the dark and the cold and scaring people witless, could find the new recruits as much outside their comfort zones as the visitors to the event. But that is all part of the fun, says Psycho Path.

The scream park attraction, in County Durham, is inviting applicants for roles of 'scare actors' and it will be holding auditions on September 13.

The job will involve spooking visitors who arrive to try out this year's scary new additions to its open site at Lintz Hall Farm, Burnopfield, which include Isolation - an attraction including four scares in one - and maize maze Corn-ered alongside disorientating house of horrors iScream and the return of apocalyptic wasteland Psycho City.

And trained actors and horror fans could find themselves donning a variety of creature costumes to help terrify visitors as they follow its new route.

Those interested in applying will need to prepare a two-minute monologue or performance and can request a 15-minute audition slot at the farm on September 13 between 12noon and 8pm, which must be booked in advance.

Successful applicants, who must be aged 17 and over, will be expected to get into the spirit of Halloween and not be afraid to try things out of their comfort zone, say organisers.

Christiano Crawford of 700 Acres Ltd, which organises Psycho Path, said: "We have some incredible attractions planned for our visitors this year but our team of scare actors are what really makes the event stand out.

“It’s a really unique experience and a great way to celebrate Halloween all month long but, like any job, it can also be hard work so applicants should consider the fact that some evenings may be cold, repetitive or have challenging guests."

He added: “All that being said, the good times really do outweigh the negatives, and it’s sure to be a fantastic, fun and unforgettable experience for everyone involved.”

Auditions must be booked and confirmed in advance by emailing info@psycho-path.co.uk or christiano@psycho-path.co.uk and, once they have a slot, applicants should take along ID and a face mask and gloves as well as wear clothes which they don’t mind getting dirty.

The successful scare actors then will need to be available for a three-hour rehearsal slot on September 16 and on September 23 before delivering their chilling performances on September 24 then on Fridays and Saturdays throughout October and also on Halloween night itself, Sunday, October 31, in time slots between 5pm and midnight.

Those wanting tickets for Psycho Path, which start at £23, can book them here. The event is also open to 13-16-year-olds who must be accompanied by an adult.
