Have you ever been doing something your entire life, only to discover years as an adult that you’ve been doing it wrong?
In a Reddit thread on the topic, users admitted to doing all sorts of things incorrectly. For example, one user said they had been putting shampoo and conditioner on in the wrong order their entire life. Another said they only just realized that many restaurants had hosts—and that they had just been walking by and seating themselves.
When something like this is pointed out, it can be pretty embarrassing. However, it can also spark a conversation about the “right” way to do things. Maybe doing the “bunny ears” method for tying your shoes really is the superior way to lace them.
Now, a debate has taken over TikTok. The central question of this debate? The best way to draw stars. Is there really an unacceptable way to do it?
What’s ‘Psycho’ About How This Man Draws A Star?
In a viral video with over 848,000 views, TikTok user Kayla (@drkayla_md) reveals an argument she’s been having with her husband.
“Please settle a debate that my husband and I are having on how to draw a star,” she starts.
She then shows her husband in front of a dry-erase board.
“Ross, show ’em how you draw your stars,” Kayla says. Ross proceeds to draw a star. To do so, he starts at the top, then draws a straight line to the bottom left. From there, he draws another straight line up to the right, then across to the left, back down to the right, and finally, connecting everything with another line to the top.
“OK, that is psycho,” Kayla says. “That is psycho behavior.”
Kayla then announces that she’s going to “show you how I do it”—which she claims is “the right way to do it.” To draw the star, she simply starts at the bottom left, carries up to the top, goes down to the bottom right, then makes her way over to the top left before crossing to the right and, eventually, making a straight line down to connect the star.
“Please tell him that he is doing it incorrectly and that my way is definitely the right way,” Kayla declares.
What’s The Correct Way To Draw A Star?
There is no “right” way to draw a five-point star. In fact, several guides for doing so offer different explanations on how to do it.
For example, some tutorials on YouTube show a method similar to the one employed by Kayla. Others show disconnected lines that begin at the top, while further tutorials offer an explanation comparable to the one shown by Kayla’s partner.
There are even some guides that start with a horizontal line, and additional ones that begin with drawing the letter “A.”
So long as one successfully draws a star, there’s really nothing “psycho” about the method they use to do it.
Plus, as the pentagram has been in active use for around 5,000 years, there’s a strong chance that every single possible method of drawing it has been used at one point or another.

Commenters Are Divided
In the comments section, some users believed that Kayla was correct in her assessment of her own method as the correct one. Others said that alternate methods were acceptable, with further users said the whole debate really didn’t matter.
“Watching the intro ‘who cares?’ Watching your husband draw ‘WHAT THE [expletive] IS HE DOING?!?’” said a user.
“He draws stars the same way I do; therefore he is correct,” countered another.
“You’re both wrong. you do a line going from left to right first obviously,” stated a third.
“I’m different than both of you. I start at bottom left go diagonal to the right.. then finish it,” shared a further TikToker.
