Psychic croc predicts Queensland win for State of Origin

Saltwater crocodile Burt choose Queensland to win the State of Origin.

Darwin's infamous psychic croc has firmly clenched his jaws of victory on the Maroons for a win in tonight's State of Origin decider.

Burt, a massive five-metre saltwater crocodile, is often called upon for his snappy predictive skills from sporting events to elections.

His instinct has proved right before, when in 2016 he chose Malcolm Turnbull as his pick for the federal election.

"He did a little debating about that one then picked the right guy," said Charlotte Price, crocodile manager at Crocosaurus Cove.

"Unfortunately, he did get it wrong in our local election, but we did decide he got it right because he actually ate the losing candidate."

Apart from predicting the destiny of politicians and sporting heroes, Burt has also had a turn on the silver screen.

"He likes to be in the limelight, he's a retired movie star so he's got to keep himself busy," Ms Price said.

The octogenarian croc originally shot to fame in Crocodile Dundee, and has continued his screen career in other movies like Black Water and Rogue, which have used his image.

"We [also] have Crocwise ads on TV asking people to stay safe around [NT] waterways, and he's in those as well," Ms Price said.

"So he's got a bit of a big head both metaphorically and physically."

Maroons snapped up as Burt changes his mind

But for Queensland and New South Wales tonight, glory and pride are on the line, as well as in the croc pen.

Burt was given the choice of munching on one of two pig carcasses, one tied to a Blues jersey, and another dangling from a Maroons jersey.

He bumped up the heart rate of Blues fans by nudging his snout and baring his teeth just below the NSW jersey.

But Maroons hopefuls clawed their way out of a jaw-dropping finish when Burt changed his mind and snapped up Queensland in the decider.

Anxious fans will have to wait a few more hours to see whether he has called it right yet again.
